The NCSBS has developed several programs to aid in the education, training, and prevention of shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma (SBS/AHT). Each program went through extensive trials and research to ensure the program using the best techniques to reach the target audience and to ultimately reduce the incidences of SBS/AHT.

Dads: The Basics program reaches out to first-time fathers and male caregivers. The program educates men on the skills needed to care for a child, ways to help the mother, and suggestions on how to cope with infant crying. This course also discusses the consequences of shaking a child.

Hospital-Based Program is a general curriculum designed to train nurses on educating parents before they take their new child home from the hospital. It covers topics including how to care for an infant and how to cope with crying and the frustrations that may arise. It also comes with supplemental materials for parents.

School-Based Program is designed to give participants a basic understanding of this form of child abuse. The program is presented at a secondary education level and provides demonstration materials and curriculum to aid the instructor in his/her presentation of the program material.

Period of PURPLE Crying® Program is the first SBS/AHT prevention program in the world to have undergone randomized controlled trials. The program is designed to educate parents on the researched crying patterns that infants experience and the need to use coping techniques to avoid frustration during this time. The program also discusses the dangers and sometimes fatal consequences of shaking your child.

The NCSBS developed a SBS/AHT prevention program specifically designed for military personnel. This program uses graphics specific to the U.S. Armed Forces and discusses topics that are unique to military life including deployment and stresses distinctive to military personnel.

SBS: A Visual Overview CD-ROM is a comprehensive tool in the education of SBS/AHT. This power point slide and animations provides a detailed oral and a visual description of SBS/AHT. It can be customized for legal and medical presentations.

The NCSBS has hosted 9 National and International Conferences throughout the world including Australia, Scotland, Canada, and the USA on SBS/AHT. These conferences bring together worldwide experts on SBS/AHT including legal, medical and prevention professionals as well as families of victims to discuss the latest information on SBS/AHT.
