As of December, 2010, 53% of Oregon’s annual birthrate is being provided with the Period of PURPLE Crying materials. This state’s effort to incorporate the PURPLE program has been grassroots and without a formal statewide taskforce. Leading this voluntary effort in collaboration with other state partners, Legacy Health, one of the largest birthing systems in the state, has been teaching PURPLE as the core of its SBS Prevention Program since PURPLE’s inception in 2006 using supplemental materials while the DVD/Booklet were being developed and tested. By mid-2007, the DVD/Booklet materials were implemented throughout the system. The Children’s Trust Fund of Oregon has been a large funding contributor for many hospitals in key population centers all over the state. In partnership with Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (OAHHS) in 2008, Legacy accepted the invitation to serve as a state PURPLE replication site from Representative Sara Gelser's Legislative SBS/AHT Prevention Task Force. The CARES Northwest (Child Abuse Response Evaluation Services Northwest) and many individual hospital foundations have been strong supporters for the evidence-based practice throughout Oregon.
