In our efforts to eradicate Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS) has developed several programs and services aimed at prevention, education, victim and family services, and research. These programs are only made possible because of the generous support given by each of you. Period of PURPLE Crying®

The Period of PURPLE Crying® is an SBS prevention program designed to educate parents and caregivers about the stress related to infant crying and the severe dangers of shaking a small child. The program is administered in hospital maternity wards, doctors offices, and health departments in hopes that every parent will receive this life saving information.

Resource and Referral Services

The Resource and Referral Service includes a toll-free hotline for the Continental United States, 1-888-273-0071 that is available for anyone who has questions about any aspect of crying, shaking or shaken baby syndrome. The NCSBS Information Specialist assists families in researching local resources and provides factual, accurate information on SBS.

National and Regional Conferences

In an effort to foster communication and enhance relationships among SBS professionals, victims, and families the NCSBS holds annual conferences which gives these groups of people an opportunity to share their stories and learn from experts all over the world. The NCSBS has organized and sponsored six conferences in the United States and Canada, as well one each in Australia, Japan and Scotland.

Research and Analysis

The NCSBS is dedicated to spreading our message. We have aligned ourselves with the utmost authorities on SBS and Child Abuse in an effort to provide the most reliable information to people all over the world. The NCSBS currently has the largest database of SBS case in the world and we use this information to conduct research and publish articles that educate others.

Local Prevention (Gift Certificate Program)

In an effort to spread our prevention programs to families all over the world, the NCSBS has developed a “Gift Certificate” program that allows individuals, businesses, and organizations to donate SBS prevention & educational materials to different groups in various communities. The NCSBS has relationships and is already working with hospitals, schools, public health centers, local law enforcement agencies, and many others in communities all over the country. A donation to Local Prevention will provide SBS prevention and educational materials to these groups who lack the resources to purchase them themselves. By providing the necessary resources to groups in your area you will help spread life-saving information about SBS to families and caregivers in your community.
